Account Lead (AS - AD equivilent)

Spool has an amazing opportunity for an Account Lead (level AS-AD) to join our team. Critical to the role are a passion for food and a love for culture; the ideal candidate must stay on top of the latest trends and be able to apply them to the business.

The Account Lead will be the day-to-day lead across some of our food and CPG clients. Key to this role will be the ability to support and drive forward the execution of PR & Influencer programs across a variety of brands, rooted in client business needs. S/he will have strong client service and leadership skills. The Account Lead must have experience and capabilities in tactical planning, creative development, earned media strategy creation and outreach, influencer partnerships, and measurement + analysis. S/he will work with team members across disciplines and be responsible for ensuring the team meets deadlines in a timely manner, to a high standard.

The Account Lead will be part of the account team including an AAE, AE and SAE; and report into the VP, Account Director on the business. The team is currently working remotely, but there is the option to go into the office, if desired.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Client Relations & Business Expert

  • Serves as daily client contact, working to develop a strong partnership rooted in open dialogue, mutual understanding, and respect

  • Becomes an expert on the client business, products, competitive set, and priorities

  • Effectively presents the agency’s recommendations and point-of-view to clients with excellence

  • Ability to work amongst an Integrated Agency Team (IAT) including advertising, paid media and shopper agencies

  • Program Management & Execution

  • Demonstrates tactical proficiency in Earned Media relations (PR), including guiding outreach plans, message development, management of activations, effective pitching and training of spokespersons for media interviews and more

  • Contributes to the brand/program strategy to achieve client and program goals

  • Assists with the development of accurate project scopes and budgets using the firm’s financial system, working with internal discipline partners

  • Demonstrates tactical proficiency in Influencer programming, including partnering with team experts to define strategy, selecting partners, executing and analyzing results

  • Oversees quality and operational performance of accounts, developing and managing clear program timelines and ensuring work follows Spool and client process standards

  • Tracks and monitors project financials (e.g., budget vs. actual), manages day-to-day client budget issues to resolution, helps ensure teams follows financial policies and processes, and supports internal finance and forecasting work

  • Demonstrates proficiency in writing skills to craft internal and client correspondence, communications plans, press materials, client presentations, etc. as well as successfully present POVs and work to gain internal and client alignment.

  • Owns presentation preparation, ensuring that all materials are correct and submitted by partners/departments on time

Team Management & Integration

  • Delegates and oversees work of junior team members, when appropriate

  • Responsibility for the development of direct reports that includes goal setting, monitoring performance in context of a development plan and providing feedback in a timely manner

  • Effectively collaborates with the larger team members and consulting network at Spool

  • Takes the lead to mobilize cross-disciplinary team members in order to bring programming to life and execute with excellence

  • Basic Qualifications

  • At least five years of relevant experience in public relations and/or related fields, including communications, advertising, management consulting, media or publishing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to manage large, integrated projects

  • Ability to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of his/her clients’ businesses and their missions, as well as their key stakeholders: consumers, employees, investors, regulators, media, vendors, partners and other businesses/organizations, etc., and will be able to impart this knowledge to account team members

  • S/he must be able to demonstrate excellent storytelling skills, and provide sound, level-appropriate media counsel with all levels of internal client contacts

  • Excellent written and verbal communications

Account Executive

Spool is growing and this is an exciting opportunity to join one of the top-ranked PR and marketing agencies in the country! We are currently looking for an Account Executive to support our brand practice and be an early-stage member of the agency team.  This person will be working on some of Spool’s incredible clients within the food and beverage space. Interest in the development of consumer and corporate communications strategies, as well as the food and beverage space are highly preferred.

Responsibilities: 

  • Play major role in creation of communications plans and goals, including development of key messages as well as tactical and strategic elements;

  • Demonstrate the ability to write, edit and proofread to create high quality internal and external, channel-appropriate communications content 

  • Understand the role of his/her clients', possessing the ability to develop key messages and write short- and long-form content in their tone of voice

  • Proven ability to lead and manage multiple small or medium-sized projects simultaneously 

  • Contributes to, and in some cases, oversees client correspondence and account management (e.g., daily updates, activity reports, etc.) 

  • Possess strong media relations and industry knowledge, with an ability to cite relevant outlets and reporters and share insights with the wider team. This includes (though not limited to): 

  • Fosters lasting relationships with reporters, producers, and bloggers on a local as well as national level.

  • Earn consistent earned media coverage both locally, nationally and in trades by demonstrating a persistence and willingness to find the right reporter and develop customize pitches that generate interest.

  • Assist with media monitoring for client placements while also sharing larger trends where clients may be fit for the coverage.

  • Take on writing projects, owning projects such as pitch plans and media alerts, as well as press release development, and press kit contents.

  • Responsible for crafting client-facing status updates, gathering feedback from team members and compiling thoughtful updates for clients and internal teams.

  • Develop and execute influencer marketing strategies and creative campaigns

  • Identify and build relationships with prominent influencers and thought leaders

  • Begin to take on a larger leadership role within accounts, making sure your voice is heard by the client on recurring calls and meetings.

  • Developing ideas and initial plans for clients and having a strong voice in team brainstorms by sharing thoughts, insights and ways to help client’s PR and marketing efforts.

  • Participate in and contribute to new business sales pitches 

  • Share thoughts on how to better the agency, including recommendations on educational opportunities, new tools to add to the team, and cultural activities.

  • Foster a positive attitude, helping to create a constructive work environment.

Rolling Internship Opportunities

Spool Marketing and Communications is looking for candidates available for a full-time, paid internship to assist our teams in the execution of programs, tactics, planning and the objective of raising awareness for our client’s. We are looking for interns with a good work ethic, strong intellectual curiosity and a desire to work hard and have fun.

What you'll be working on:

  • Creating media lists

  • Drafting, disseminating and pitching media alerts and press releases

  • Identifying and reaching out to social influencers

  • Participating in brainstorms and project meetings

  • Creation of publicity materials and media kits

  • Conducting research

  • Media monitoring

  • Compiling news summaries and providing general office support

 

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Impeccable time management and prioritization skills

  • Ability to coordinate projects from inception to completion and meet demanding deadlines

Education & Minimum Qualifications:

  • University/college graduate
