Media Relations Specialist: Senior Account Executive

Spool Marketing and Communications is hiring a Media Relations Specialist an an SAE level. This is position is for someone who is a thinker and a doer. This means driving media outreach strategy, bring hustle, organization and a proven track record of media engagement to clients. There’s a lot of opportunity to grow and build a thriving career for the right candidate. This role will also wear a lot of hats, but you'll love them all, we promise.

 

Our ideal candidate is someone who can build a strategic PR plan and then take it and run. This means effectively pitch media (traditional print, online and broadcast media, as well as bloggers and social influencers) and get great results. This role needs someone who is a strong writer and editor and has plenty of creative in their DNA to come up with unique angles, ideas and pitches for clients to break through the clutter. Client are both consumer brands and B2B companies; so we someone who has an understanding of both.

Qualifications:

  • B.S/B.A in Public Relations, Marketing, Business (big fan of Liberal Arts degrees, too!)

  • 4-6 years of agency/relevant professional experience. 

  • Great client services skills

  • Established media contacts (consumer, lifestyle, business and innovation is a must)

  • Proven results for past clients/employment

  • We want thinkers and doers, this means we have brilliant ideas and then roll up our sleeves and get'er done

  • A great member of a team and mentor to junior staff

  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with an ability to follow a conservative, professional writing style

  • Clear understanding of appropriate professional communication

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Consistent use of sound judgment when making decisions

  • Ability to identify and implement creative solutions to problems

  • Self-motivated, self-starter with capacity to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines

Internship

Spool Marketing and Communications is looking for candidates available for a full-time, paid internship to assist our teams in the execution of programs, tactics, planning and the objective of raising awareness for our client’s. We are looking for interns with a good work ethic, strong intellectual curiosity and a desire to work hard and have fun.

What you'll be working on:

  • Creating media lists

  • Drafting, disseminating and pitching media alerts and press releases

  • Identifying and reaching out to social influencers

  • Participating in brainstorms and project meetings

  • Creation of publicity materials and media kits

  • Conducting research

  • Media monitoring

  • Compiling news summaries and providing general office support

 

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Impeccable time management and prioritization skills

  • Ability to coordinate projects from inception to completion and meet demanding deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Education & Minimum Qualifications:

  • University/college graduate

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, mass communications, journalism or related field

  • Public Relations experience preferred

  • Previous agency experience, including internships, desired

 

Compensation:

  • $13/hour
