In the End, It's About Giving

As Thanksgiving quickly approaches I assume most people are getting their stretchy pants ready, making a list of what they’re thankful for, and deciding whether or not Black Friday deals are actually worth the possibility of being trampled. Here are Spool we’re exciting for time with our families and are thankful for the success we’ve had in the last year.

While you may not be braving the crowds on Black Friday, instead opting to participate in Small Business Saturday or Cyber Monday, don’t forget about the equally important Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement started in 2012, was established to promote an opportunity just after Thanksgiving and Black Friday madness to give back.

We can all get lost in the magic of the holidays, setting up decorations, getting gifts for everyone on your list, and spending time with your loved ones, it’s exhausting! In between all of the planning, shopping, and wrapping consider taking some time to donate to a cause you’re passionate about. There are so many great causes out there to support so to give you some ideas here are Spool’s favorite organizations to support:

Illinois Action for Children: For 50 years Illinois Action for Children has supported children in underprivileged areas of the state to make sure that every child has access to quality early care and education as well as the tools to help them succeed in school and in life.

Girls Play Sports: This local Evanston organization works with pre-teen and teen girls to encourage them to stick with sports, fostering leadership and communication skills. In addition to teaching a variety of sports, Girls Play Sports is committed to helping girls become the leaders of tomorrow.

Infant Welfare Society of Evanston: Another local Evanston foundation is the Infant Welfare Society of Evanston, where their top three priorities are to nurture, support, and educate. IWSE offers programs to help children thrive in the classroom and at home. They also offer quality childcare, as well as educational tools for the whole family.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: This research hospital’s mission is simple: treat children regardless of race, color, creed or their family's ability to pay. As one of the premier pediatric research institutions, St. Jude hopes to treat as many children as they can, searching for cures along the way.

So please enjoy your holiday weekend, fill your plates and your carts (virtual and/or real), but also consider giving back to those in need, in whatever way you see fit. Happy Thanksgiving y'all!
