chicagoland's recycling revival

THE SITUATION
building trust through local engagement and community education
LRS engaged Spool to strengthen its reputation across Chicagoland during a period of rapid growth and expansion. Operating in an industry often challenged by public skepticism and misinformation, the company needed to build trust with local communities, establish itself as a sustainability leader and increase awareness of its investments in the region.

THE IMPACT
The program generated more than 180 placements and 124 million impressions, including coverage in the Chicago Tribune, WGN, NBC Chicago, WTTW, Crain's Chicago Business, Daily Herald and Lake County News-Sun. LRS was featured in WTTW's documentary Chicago Works and earned recognition as one of the Midwest's leading recycling and sustainability companies. Most importantly, the company strengthened trust among local stakeholders and established itself as a transparent, community-focused leader in the waste and recycling industry.

THE SOLUTION
Spool developed a localized communications strategy focused on transparency, community education and environmental stewardship. We helped launch and promote the first materials recovery facility (MRF) built specifically for the Chicagoland market, creating opportunities for residents, local leaders and media to better understand the recycling process and the company's sustainability commitments.
Through ongoing engagement with local media, community stakeholders and industry organizations, we elevated LRS' role as both a business leader and community partner. Messaging highlighted the company's investments in local infrastructure, job creation, recycling innovation and educational initiatives throughout the region.
