As part of our Summer Internship program, we invited all applicants to join an AMA with some of Spool's past interns (now full-time employees). We heard insightful questions from the attendees and enjoyed some strolls down memory lane as Anna McAndrew, Steph Ford, Parker Rhodes, and Ashley Black recalled their early days at Spool.

For those who missed it, swipe for a few tips that were shared which can help aspiring interns at Spool or elsewhere.

TIP #1: REACH OUT AND SAY HELLO! In industries like PR, the circle is smaller than you think. Networking is a MASSIVE part of your career and it’s important to build those connections even if you don’t land the role. Take the time to send a personalized thank you to the person who interviewed you to stand out and continue building that relationship.

TIP #2: BE A HUMAN. Being a human is going to become an increasingly hot commodity that people are goi

ng to pay a premium for. AI can’t replace human ingenuity, creativity, and problem solving. Use that to your advantage. Hiring managers want to know how you think and how adaptable you can be, so demonstrate that.

TIP #3: EMBRACE DISCOMFORT. When you’re entering the process of landing your first entry-level role or internship, it’s inevitable that you'll get nervous or feel awkward before a big meeting. Instead of seeing that as a sign that you aren’t ready, look at it as a signal that you are growing. When entering the “real world,” no one expects you to be perfect. Trust us, we are all still making mistakes and learning, even after years in the industry.
